Boston, MA, 03/17/2014 – Garmin International Inc., a subsidiary of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ:GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, announced a comprehensive radar altimeter, a new product in the company’s high efficiency, all digital GRA 5500 radar altimeter series.

The New Product

The new GRA 55 would be the best in class and price effective radar altimeter which is designed particularly for helicopters and other aviation aircrafts. The altimeter controls Garmin’s digital signal processing technology, which is still due for patent approval, that operates to provide means for smooth tracking of altitudes and results in a sustainable and accurate above ground level indication. It is fit to operate even in the most difficult and unsteady environment conditions including on rough terrain, sand, choppy water and tree canopies. The GRA 55 can be paired with the new GI 205 stand alone indicator, as also is the GRA 5500. It would hence provide a comprehensive, stand alone radar altimeter solution for operators who look for a price effective display.

Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ:GRMN)’s patent pending GRA 55 technology consists of built in self test monitors that continuously cross check system and data integrity and eventually assuring pilot of a precise measurement of the height above ground. The technology also offers easy installation with simple calibration and removes the need for long lengths of antenna cables which are otherwise necessary in the installation of traditional radar altimeters.

Launch In 2014

The GRA 55 is forecasted to be made available in the second quarter of the year. It is estimated to come at a price of $6,995 and would be compatible with select Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ:GRMN) integrated flight decks and flight displays. Apart from this, the GI 205 which is a stand-alone indicator will be available in the fourth quarter of 2014 and will be priced at $3,995. A complete set including the GRA 55 and GI 205, inclusive of the antennas, will be available at the cost of $11,995.
