Nokia Corporation’s (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) Vice President of Product Marketing has left the company for as yet undisclosed reasons. Ilari Nurmi, who was present at the introduction of Nokia’s new Lumia models in September, has confirmed to Reuters that he no longer works for Nokia.
The new Lumia smartphones, which run on the Windows Phone 8 operating system, are critical to Nokia’s future. At their introduction, many were disappointed because the scarcity of key details like when they would become available and their pricing. Nokia also embarrassingly presented a video of the new Lunia 920 that actually showed another phone model. Some have speculated that Nokia rushed the introduction to beat Apple’s launch of the new iPhone 5.
Whether these missteps had anything to do with Mr. Nurmi’s departure is anyone’s guess at this point. In other news, Nokia is starting to announce pricing and availability in different markets.
