Boston, MA, 02/25/2014 (usastockreport) – Indonesia government confirmed that it will ease tax norms for mining companies which will build its smelters in the country. The decision comes following a long halt at the nation’s mining industry, which stood still post the recent tax and mining laws outlined by the government. This decision is seen as a victory for U.S. based mining leaders like Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc. (NYSE:FCX), which had stopped its copper concentrate exports there, citing the progressive taxation as a breach of their contracts. Later, the meeting between Freeport’s Indonesia Chief Executive RozikSutjipto and Industry Minister M.S. Hidayat led to a first breakthrough in the matter. Hidayat told that Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc. (NYSE:FCX) will resume its export and will developa smelter within three years, while Freeport’s Sutjipto confirmed the same.
